(Around 2.41 lakh candidates have registered for CAT 2018 and will be appearing for it across both the slots in 370 exam centers in 147 cities across India.)
Majority students who took the first slot of the CAT reported that VA RC section was Easy. Those who had taken the CAT in 2017 reported that VARC was slightly easier than VARC of 2017. DI LR section too was generally reported to be easy. This was in stark contrast to the rather difficult DILR of last year. The QA Section was reported by many students as difficult. Last year students had found QA rather easy.
A simple calculator was provided, and not a scientific one. There was an arrow provided near the question palette which when clicked expanded the question window to full screen view by hiding the question palette & vice versa.
At the end of the test, a summary of number of questions attempted, visited and not visited was displayed for each section.
Overview Of the Test
Slot 1:CAT 2018 did not spring any surprises in the paper format. Only deviation was in VARC, where 4 passages had 5 questions each, and 1 passage had 4 questions. The level of difficulty of the paper was higher, compared to last year. VARC continued to be easy; and DILR was easier than last year with sets that took less time to solve. However, Quant was tougher. We expect 99%ile at a score of 50 or lower. An overall raw score of around 155 should fetch a 99%ile in CAT 2018.
Slot 2:'Forewarned is forearmed' is a piece of timeless wisdom. So, students who went into the second slot expecting a similar paper as that of the first slot (or for that matter the CAT 2017 paper) were on the right track. It too started with an 'easy' VARC section. The passages were on similar lines as those of the first slot. The DILR section continued to give a sigh of relief to the students. However, some are of the opinion that it was slightly tougher than the first slot's DILR section. Overall, it was of a moderate level of difficulty. And the reign of QA continued. It remained the toughest section in the second slot too.
